Earlier this year, the Student Council received £100 from the Parents' Association to help improve the Year 9 Common Room, and we’ve worked hard to make the most of it. We decided to focus on making the space more comfortable, inviting, and enjoyable for students, and we’re pleased with the results so far. We spent £50 of the budget on new, comfy seating, including bean bags and small chairs, which have made the room much more relaxing for students during their free periods. The old seating wasn’t very comfortable or practical, so this update has made a huge difference.

We also used £30 to add some fun and creative decorations, like posters, wall art, and a few plants, to brighten up the room and give it a more personal, wonderful feel. The feedback from Year 9 students has been positive, with many saying the space feels much livelier and more enjoyable to spend time in. The last £20 went towards cleaning supplies, like disinfectant, wipes, and sprays, which help us keep the room clean and hygienic for everyone who uses it. Keeping the common room tidy is important, especially as it’s a place students use daily.

While these improvements have made the room more comfortable and pleasant, there are still some things we’d like to do to make it even better. For example, adding more storage options, like lockers or shelves, would help keep personal items organized and reduce clutter, which would make the space feel even more spacious. Some students have also suggested adding a TV or a music system to make the space more fun and social, providing an opportunity for students to relax and bond over shared interests.

Additionally, there’s still a need for more tables and chairs so that students can have space to study, eat, or work on projects comfortably. Finally, a few students have mentioned that the lighting could be brighter, especially during the darker months, to make the room feel warmer and more welcoming.

Overall, the £100 grant has made a real difference, and we’re incredibly grateful for the Parents' Association’s generous support. We’re excited about the improvements we’ve made so far and hope that we can continue to enhance the Year 9 Common Room in the future, making it an even better place to hang out, relax, and enjoy time with friends.
